just a technical question:
taking into consideration the development in technology in the last 30 years - why can't the displays be bigger?

Well in the case of these watches, LIP is trying to make them look like the ones from the 70's, small display and all. I prefer this size display when it comes to retro looking modern watches. With completely new looking modern LED's, I like the bigger displays as well.

Oh and I stated in a thread, that is now in thread heaven, that LIP was going to go away from retro style watches and just do new ones. Well, looking at photos of the 70's LIP watches, these are much closer looking to a particular 70's model than I thought. I completely forgot about this model, which I don't even think I've had. I'll post their new LCD models, which is a completely new design, soon.

: The new Lips

Post16 Mar 2007, 19:44

I want the black one! :) With RED display, please! 8)
The display is a little small IMHO. Assuming the case is 40mm sqare (like the Nookas), the digits are only 3.8mm high.
I understand they want it to resemble the 70s, but those digits were thin. I don't really like small bold digits. They look swollen to me.
The Majestyk is much better in this regard. So the black LIP with a RED Majestyk display, that would be perfect! MJ, can you perhaps influence lip ? Or better keep it for your own watches as a unique selling point

The digits should be the same size as the Majestyk but the display is not the same one used. Maybe the photos are making them look even more thicker but of course all the moderns, with the small displays, have slightly thicker digits than the 70's watches.

Nice! I really like the styling. IMO there has been significant improvement in modern LED's in both quality and styling recently.

I hope they bring the price lower than the current Lip's though. I do think they are over-priced. Most modern LED's retail for below $100 US. Some much lower (Fossil) with good quality and apparently reasonable mark-up. There really is no reason for a modern LED to be priced significantly higher, other than status marketing, imo. Even MJ's watch, which is top-quality, is significantly lower than the Lips, and he probably doesn't have near the economies of scale that Lip has.

I agree. But when you pay more, you usually pay for the brand.
Even the original Lips cost to much taking into consideration their plastic bands and low-grade National Semiconductor modules.

btw. what does IMO stand for? I'm not a native-speaker ;)

[Edit]
S.H.I.T. - an acronym that was used when shipping dried manure for fertilizer...stands for Ship High In Transit. In other words, keep dry. :P

Nobodys getting banned....
:!: One thread removed to thread heaven on the other party's suggestion...it wasn't quite a "police action", but it is something I'll avoid in the future. The backlash was phenomenal to say the least!!! :x

8) I just received a great book on phpbb2 so I can learn how to make this site work more effectively and efficiently. And avoid "oops"

Re: the new Lips. I just received a "Mint as New"(NOS) Birks with flick-wrist. Cool thing about this watch - the seller includes a spare module, which happens to fit the Lip Mach 2000 perfectly(29.6 mm module, not 29). Real wire-bond LEDs, flick wrist...this will be a joy once I make a small work-around for the fact the case doesn't complete the circuit.
