HEY FITRON HOW DARE YOU SAY I AM NOT SMART I AM THE SMARTEST GUY YOU CAN THINK OF BELIEVE ME ;-)

Now that we're back to the original topic:
The reason for fifeman's success in selling is probably that he addresses a totally different audience than Majestyk:
Majestyk addresses people that like perfect photos, serious article descriptions and smooth communication. Perhaps there's already a LED watch saturation in this target group. Plus his spick and span private auctions could discourage some people.
fifeman OTOH appeals to the more "bravehearted";-) people who don't mind fuzzy photos, enjoy shouting at each other and if something goes wrong pay a visit to the seller to fight it out hand to hand. These people also have money to spend. Probably plenty of unexploited market potential there.

Let's wrap this thread up soon....obviously none of us have a solid answer on why different auctions appeal to different people. While I agree with Rewolf that a super slick auction drives some people away, I've seen no inclination for people to pay 100% more, just because the seller is easy to physically "visit"(very bad idea unless they maintain a brick & mortar store...in some areas that could be fatal). Photoshopping an item to where it is presented unnaturally is a big turn-off for some with the skills but not the inclination to do the same - I fall into that group. I like seeing lint in pictures, it just seems more realistic and honest.

hey fifeman keep cool your photos are not that bad ive seen much worse on ebay but jeffs are better but thats not the point at all the point is in your auctions you make everything wrong according to the accepted rules BUT YOU HAVE SUCCESS WITH IT this is what jeff was wondering about and why he started this topic and i tried to find an explanation we all can learn from you sometimes it pays not to keep to the rules so hey what do you want YOU ARE THE WINNER in this game and we are all wondering how you did it this is nothing against you personally or your photos or whatever please read this carefully and think about it before you hit the roof

Can anyone join this party? Oh wait, I started it. ;-) Ed mentioned a few threads back that we should wrap this up. So I'm going to do this now.

The sellers/bidders nivaarhusky, inver35 and irisfr188 are all related and have been artificially inflating bids by way of selling and bidding on each others auctions.

This practice is called shill bidding. This is not an Ebay term or is exclusive to them. Shill bidding has been going on before Ebay existed, with 'in house' auctions. For Ebay, shilling is when a seller uses different user ID's operated by themselves, or family members/friends, to seemingly make an item look like it's worth more, thus falsely influencing real bidders to participate and drive up the price of an item. With Ebay's new private bidding system kicking in at auctions over $200, this is even easier to do and harder for people to catch...Some people that is; I can see it a mile away.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2 ... lling.html

Not only is this against Ebay's rules, it's against the law, and people have been arrested and charged in the act of shilling, when auctioning higher priced goods on Ebay. (Do a Yahoo search: "shill bidding" charged - with the quotes included)

Myself and others, who will be nameless, have been noticing this for sometime and recently a complaint to Ebay was made, in a more than casual fashion. (IE: Lots of details). Ebay responded with this:

"I appreciate the time and effort that you've made to report this
member to us. It shows that you are right with your report that's why
I've personally took action on the member "nivaarhusky" you reported
(e.g. a warning, restriction or suspension). A job well done with the
report that you've made. Also, please be aware that as it's important
for eBay to maintain the privacy of all its members, we can't share
details of the action we take."

After Ebay's investigation, they also suspended an auction that irisfr188 had currently running.

I do want to state for the record, that Ed was not involved with this. I'm only mentioning this since he is the forum owner.

nivaarhusky, inver35 and irisfr188, who are either one person or two family members, have done a great disservice to the vintage digital watch community and I think they owe anyone who has placed bids, on their "shill auctions", an apology; either individually or on this forum.

I do not believe these user ID's have been permanently suspended so I ask everyone, who regularly posts here, to keep an eye on their future auctions.

By the way, just for the record, I don't think there is anything wrong with matching up watches with boxes and tags and saying that it's all original...AS LONG as the boxes/tags were originally marketed with the particular watch. IE: Not a tag that was on a different watch and a box that the watch was never sold with. So if one is going to say that it's all original, they have to be very knowledgeable about the vintage digital watch market.

Couldn't agree more Jeff. But I think there is a small amount of latitude on some brands because they were packaged in so many different ways, and for a high end brands it is occasionally forgivable to put a more premium box with a lesser watch. E.g. the Pulsar leather boxes with the flip open "flap" top - that is a cool box with any Pulsar. 8-)

I would concur with your identity detective work 100%, by way of personal knowledge.
