Looking for copy of "Electric Watch"

Post22 Dec 2007, 07:36

Looking for a nice copy of the Japanese watch-collectors book. Not a word of English in the entire thing, but great picture-spreads of most vintage LEDs. Anyone have a copy they'd part with for reasonable money?

Thanks for the heads-up on this one [I applaud you for even finding this item...it was incredibly badly listed]. Got it! Pricey, but very interesting.

Not that pricey - I unfortunately paid $230 for a minty copy a couple of years back ! I suspect your final price may have been considerably higher if the seller knew better how to advertise it..

But despite being entirely in Japanese it does have some very unusual artwork in it, featuring adverts and flyers for watches that just dont get seen in the west. EG, the 18kt Pulsar pendant calculator (grima one off ?), and an advert from Pulsar Switzerland for the 18kt Euro calculator in its unusual box.

Thanks, I needed that; feel much better now. Still, it's the most money I've ever spent on a book I can't read...

If I understood old Swedish, I might be tempted [except I blew all my lunch money on that Calculator and PRM]. This is another prime example of how poor photos may limit interest in a high-price item [except for the first one, they are absolutely AWFUL!].

I agree - why do people have to use what looks like a bad mobile phone-cam to sell something this expensive ??!! They're just shooting themselves in the foot with this sloppy attitude :(

If you blew all todays lunch money on chunks of pulsar gold, what you going to spend tommorows on ?

Bruce - that is about the going rate for that book in opened condition....I paid $130 for one like yours, but about $100 more for an factory wrapped copy, complete with an advert. in Japanese for some of their other books. It is fascinating to look at, and many of the ads and text are in English, so there isn't a complete language baracade. :x

Doensen's "Watch" generally runs the same...$89 on ebay, but add on the shipping and you are at $125-130. I have a case of NOS copies of that book for $140/each with shipping worldwide included.

I just picked up another Japenese book I'd never seen before....I'll try to do a review of it soon.

It's said that 10% of the population buys 90% of the books sold....I like to think a higher percentage of collectors would want books on watches, but I understand for many it really is all about the "bling".
