bingo, it's working! thanks to howard & a little fiddling on my part, i now have nice bright digits. i removed the 3v lithium cell i was experimenting with because it is a low drain cell. substituted 2 389 in series. these cells are high drain. i don't know if the extra .1v had anything to do with it, but it is now bright full digits even outside. now i need a source for the varta80 nimh cells. i tried batteries plus, but they were out. also need a bracelet. the original was satin s/s. thx. for your help howard. you mentioned in your email about polished bracelets. if i can't find a satin one this will work too. i was also wondering what would be best to glue the lexan back together. peter

Peter,A temporary seal could be obtained with a silicone or epoxy but it would not truly glue or bond the lexan together.Nothing really does but Methylene Chloride period. Unless however there is some major breakthrough in the last 8 years. Then of course this strong bond would be difficult to re-open in a few decades.I found this easy to comprehend explanation on the net about bonding plastics/Lexan.It is old text from 1996.

Can't beat the Mouser Price on batteries but for about $1.75 per cell more some like A@M enterprise from Australia will install the tabs at custom angles if you send them a drawing. They did take almost 10 weeks to deliver though.A custom tab request will take longer with any of the suppliers.

As Jeff and others will agree with me it is tricky to position the batteries in while not shorting or stressing something before clamping the top and bottom together.Put insulating tape underneath batts and over QC.
