LOL while you lot insult the hell out each other ... i have a little update on the watch.

I have just managed to buy from ebay for £43 a complete watch which, with a little help from a member off of here, have identified as containing the correct module for my watch!!

Image

here is the description as per the seller

The watch is a Hughes Solid State Digital LED
Quartz
Five functions, its black face measures one inch
and the whole of the front around one and a half
inch,hope this helps.

Sooo hopefully this watch will be up and running very shortly, im not sure whether I will still be selling it or not but i guess having it working will increase its value whatever :-)

such fun.  i kind of thought when someone mentioned the lower case hh on the back it might be a hughes module. i have one with the same logo and it is a hughes inside. command buttons at about 1 o'clock and 8 o'clock. glad you found a replacement. this site can be very entertaining. also educational if we don't slay each other with our bent humor and sarcasm. :-? peter

The good bad and ugly of fan sites for any genre, is you can show an item you have for sale but it can also be "panned" quite succinctly. Many people have items they primarily keep in a showcase - I spend stupid amounts of money on bass guitars and such, but that is my business. People argue over every little detail, down to the shapes/font of the letters used to stamp the cases and case backs. They are arguing to incrementally find truth. Or at least consensus. :-)

Congratulations on seeking out a part on your own, some don't have the time or temperament to do so. Next you'll start reading repair tips and asking questions....it can become addicting. And you took the abuse quite well. !@@! M:)W:)M M:)W:)M

My only concern now is that the replacement module i have bought is going to be lines rather than a dot matrix display which i really wanted as thats what was in it originally!!!

I have also followed the advice of another member on here and have left it to soak overnight in soapy water and its come up a treat!!!

I will post post more pictures up of it when i have it all working :-)

Its actually doing pretty well on ebay so im not sure what to do now.... keep it, sell it, relist it as a running model, update the listing as a running model etc etc

I had no idea when i asked about it on here that it was such a sought after model!!!

P.S Ed.... I still may be coming to you for a new crystal if i keep it :-)

lol it didnt bother me mate... at the end of the day the watch is worth whats its worth regardless of what is said about it :-)

As you said there are collectors pieces for showcases and pieces that can and should be worn!!

My watch is the latter and someone will be able to wear it out not worrying about every little mark and scratch on it.

I think my watch could be likened to a Ferrari that has done 80000 miles lol

Whoah! £205.00 and still almost 8 days to go!
Personally, I'd let the auction run, update the listing with "working replacement module included" and add one or two photos of the now cleaned watch. Get rid of it as long as you still can. Once you're infected with the LED virus it'll be a lot harder ;-) .

It looks like one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/Seventies-MICROSONIC-Red-Display-Wrist-Watch-UHR-RELOJ-/250705781004?pt=UK_Jewelery_Watches_Watches_MensWatches_GL&hash=item3a5f3aa10c#ht_16455wt_1107 - this seller has sold a lot of these. Might not matter in your case (it might still perfectly fit your watch), but the module inside is not a Hughes (at least the one I have checked) - it's stamped ESA on the back and does not match the setting instructions (which are for setting a Hughes module).

"The seller ended the listing early and cancelled all bids. Cancelled: 11-Oct-10 16:43:46 BST" Highest bid was £250.00.

So did you decide to keep it, or did you get an irresistible offer?

My guess is he got some crazy offer in excess of $1000 USD and took it. It was going nicely. It will need glass and a module, but maybe the potential wearer thinks it is just fine as it is. I personally wear the worst stuff....no worries that way.

A bit rude to stop an auction after that many bids, but Mark did indicate he might pull the sale to keep it for himself. Let us all know, we were hanging by our fingernails, waiting to see what happed with it.

I understand the reasons why it happens but I hate it when items get sold from under me, especially when there are already bids in place.

Yes I spotted your listing, strange according to the bid\offer history you declined an offer of more than the asking price, never actually seen that happen before, you must of got a really good price for the watch so well done, and yes like you say if a offer is to good to turn down then you would have to be daft to turn it down.
