Hi All,

I'm looking for a Frontier module. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

I guess I should have specified more clearly exactly what I was looking for.

Here's a few pix of the one I need. It came from a Unitrex that was full of battery acid and the scraping marks of the previous owner's efforts to clean the module. I cleaned up the module properly, but there's no life in it. Probably it got in under the black rubbery stuff over the IC, or the round thingy on the other side which I guess must be a variable resistor to control the time keeping.

I have had a couple of those that have responded to some heat from a hair dryer - albeit temporary, but you never know ;-)

Thanks for the advice. Anything is worth the try.

I've often thought that there's a good business out there for enterprising witch doctors exorcising bad spirits from electronic devices. Probably would work with finicky computers too. :-D

The problem with these is the small, diamond saw trimmed, resistor upper right in your display side photo (square component with slit cut in it). Like the thick film resistors in Pulsar modules these are not sealed against battery leakage and if the battery leaks the electrolyte contamination makes them go low and stop the oscillator running. In theory the resistor in the 2002 module could be replaced as it is a standard SMD resistor but I have no idea what the value should be- probably about 1-2 Megohms. In later modules they went over to thick film resistors deposited directly on the board (Omega Digital 1 module!) and these are even worse. I have had some success washing them with de-ionised water and then thoroughly drying the module (warming a module on a radiator has the same effect- temporarily!- the Potassium/Sodium hydroxide contamination is a fiend for sucking water out of the local enviroment and becoming conductive again)

Hi,

Yeah, definitely there's crap in the round adjustment resistor on the other side of the plastic goop covered IC. It's quite ruined and my rinsing efforts can't get all the crud out of it. I'll have a closer look at the resistor you mentioned too. Most of the damaged seems to be on the other side of the module. Anyone have any ideas on replacements for these? The rest of the module looks reasonably ok. I'll get a photo up of the other side when I get a moment. Seems like an easy soldering job if you have the part.

Here's some photos of the other side. Any suggestions on how to clean it up, or repair it would be appreciated.

On another front, I got a NSC module going that is completely covered in corrosion. I can't believe it works. Makes me wonder if this one, which looks pretty clean, has another problem.

Cheers,
Shawn
