I for one see no harm in publishing the member IP address. And it does have great value in exposing these kinds of problems where we don't know with complete certainty who is writing.
Is this address that of new member johnt, or one of pigeon's? If the latter: how can we be sure johnt IS pigeon? And as long as we aren't sure we IMHO better not beat him too hard, just stay "on hold" intil the admin can check the IP address. Yes, IP blocking does not work, this has been discussed before.
As for publishing a poster's IP address: I have not yet decided if I'd my location made public - even though it's inexact anyway (in my case currently 50km off target
