Mens Dress model

I recenty acquired what I believe is a men's dress model. It didn't fire up so I opened the back and replaced what must have been the original SR43SW batteries with two 301's. It still didn't fire up, not to mention that I can't get the back screwed on - of course, if I had the right size pulsar tool that would help. Anyway, I guess my question is, Does the back need to be screwed in correctly for the thing to work? Any insight into how I might get this working (last resort is that I send it off for repair) would be helpful.

Just curious, but what will the 386's do that the 301's don't? Is it a size thing or what?

Aw,nuts! Now that I have 20 bucks tied up in batteries I'm sad to report that they didn't do the trick. So, before I send this little puppy off, if anyone has another idea that I could try, I'd be grateful to heart it.

The case back doesn't need to be screwed down but it does need to be touching the batteries and the case of watch to complete the power circuit for it to function.

Idea's
Make sure you have the batteries the right way up.
Clean the contact points with a fibre tipped pen and some rubbing alcohol both on the module and the case back.
Try both buttons and also an external magnet to see if the display activates.
Be careful not to cross thread the screw ring.

Tried the magnet trick a little bit ago using a couple different magnets, but to no avail. I'll try the alcochol method in a day or two but, frankly, I'm not having much hope.
