Uranus Setting?

Post21 Jun 2011, 19:04

I have a Uranus LED the same shape as this one but with one command at the 2 o'clock position and one command at the 4 o'clock position with a single set button at the 3 o'clock position, it is working and keeping time but I can only get the minutes to set, is there a special method to set the hours and date or is it faulty as I suspect?

UPDATE: The module defaults to midnight so I decided to remove the batteries at this time to get it to display the correct time, however once I had reset it back to default I was able to set the hour, date and minute without a problem  I did notice that the module only has very thin contacts, prongs of wire rather than flat copper plates, so I suspect that I was not being firm enough with the command buttons the first time around.

Anyone know what frequency the QC is on this watch, I think I recall reading that it different to the usual 32,768 Hz and the Hughes 786,432 Hz?

Mick, you are partially right about the frequency. Some of those used the 32,768 and indicate the same in the literature - I think this is mainly their last modules, with the very conventional setter a 3, command at 1 o'clock.

Those early ones with the double command buttons - I've personally never had any luck with a crystal swap on those and can't offer actual assistance. It would be great if someone has an original manual for an early one that indicates the frequency. I looked at the two manuals I have, and neither indicates the frequency.. :x

Thanks Ed, I had a scoot around and found where I had remembered the info regarding the QC frequency it was from Piotr's website, he has an Elgin American Minicom containing an identical module to the Uranus one that I described and accordingly it has the frequency of 30.720Hz.......I'm guessing that's not going to be one that is still produced?

The glass crystal is chipped on the watch that I have if anyone happens to have a replacement going spare please let me know.
