ESA 942.711 LCD Module

Post16 Jan 2012, 22:40

This module has a black plastic cover that sits on the PCB underneath the LCD panel and the lighting unit. Underneath is the main IC. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove this plastic cover without destroying the module. I need to get at a track under there but I smell wire-bond-mangling-doom......

Your sense of smell is quite correct! There is a whole bunch of exposed wire-bonds under that cover.
The cover held in place by 2 plastic pins that penetrate through the PCB. You can push them through from the other side........make sure the cover doesn’t swing around as the first pin is released !!

The tricky part is putting the cover back on. In hind-sight, I would shave the pins down a fraction so they’re not as tight a fit, and I’d also glue some fairly rigid fishing line to the ends of each pin (which can be fed through each hole in the PCB), so that the cover can be located accurately, first time. Then cut the fishing line off from the other side.

Good luck !
Rgds,
Andrew.
