Hamilton Pulsars Revisited (Again)

Post17 Dec 2012, 02:46

This post is (mostly) for Bruce...

It appears that I have found an early Hamilton marked P2 that you were searching for as described in this earlier thread:
viewtopic.php?uid=2004&f=79&t=1600&start=0

It has all of the characteristics that one would expect of one of these early Hamilton marked Pulsars:
1) Hamilton marked gold filled case back
2) Early serial number (12256)
3) Early date stamp on clasp (10/72)
4) Early finger tab magnet door

Here are more images of the watch in question:

The previous serial numbers for Hamilton marked Pulsars appear to be in a pretty small range - the other ones cited were 11871, 12286 , and 12482.

Cheers,

-abe.

Yup, absolutely real and original...your watch is even within the known serial number range. Outstanding catch. Now, we just need another stainless one (so far, only one, that I know of). Other than the P1s, these are the ONLY Pulsar watches that carry the Hamilton name (and by mistake, at that!). It's interesting that these DON'T occur at the very beginning of production (serial numbers for the P2s start at 10001) but significantly into the production run, with more than a thousand watches made with the CORRECT caseback markings, before we see the first of the incorrect Hamilton markings. The rare 10K casebacks are also in this early number range, so, clearly, in the midst of the scramble to get watches built and out of the factory, some serious slip-ups were made (just for us collectors, 40 years later, to get worked up about).
