Seiko G757 backlight

Post17 Dec 2012, 17:37

Hi folks,

I have a couple of these interesting watches but both of them suffer from practically useless backlights. I note from the bulb's part number (4530 649) that these were used in several Seiko modules. Were these particular bulbs known to dim over time or do I simply need to renew the batteries? Both watches function perfectly well an all other respects, and the displays do not fade when I use the backlight.

Many thanks,

Dave

I've never seen a useful backlight on Seiko, or any other LCD watch apart from the ones with Swiss made ESA movements.

The bulbs on my three A939 models are more than adequate. Admittedly I don't know whether these are the same as that used on the G757 as the available technical manual for the A939 omits the part numbers.

Hi,
My experience is that the older seiko's that i have, do have good backlights.
For instance, my 0634,0624,A029 and 0138 do have strong backlights that make it very easy to read the time in the dark.
The "newer" seiko's (still more than 30 years old ;-) ) however do suffer from not so bright backlights.
Dave mattews, the A939 that i have, does have a good backlight as well, so i think this is an exception.
My 2 cents. :-)

I find sometmies the filament can show its age. I put a A359 light onto a D409 and it is like having an LED light in there.

prizing up the bulb off the circuit can help it shine more sometimes, or just replacing it can help

Hey seiko kid, how does this work exactly, does it help the bulb to make a better contact?

Hey SK,
Could this be due to the fact that the D409 has a 3v battery, whereas the A359 has a 1.55v one, so it will shine brighter ?

I must say that some modules of the same type do differ in brightness.
I have a few 0634 modules and all are bright except for one ,that one is kind of dim ,it's still is a bit of a mystery why :-?
