G'Day all,
Will here. I'm an Aussie (Sydney) and about to turn the big four zero in March.
I am a digital imaging specialist and linux engineer.
I ended up here after starting to look on ebay for a Seiko W358-4A10 [AO] because I found mine in my old storage stuff from 15-20 years ago. I had kept it, without a band (plastic broken where one of the pins seats) and not working, all battered and scarred because I simply loved the old yellow thing.
So I went looking and then, finding it almost impossible to locate started studying other watches that came up under "Retro" or "Vintage" digital watch.
I was rivetted and began looking for a really simple and cheap one that was a classic I could wear as a keepsake from my youth - 80s STYLE
And then I found the g757 - a watch I had completely forgotten I had coveted like nothing else. I recalled the Sports 100 from Octopussy which was the seminal Bond film but that was not the watch that I had been smitten by.
Anyway, sufficient to say that everything else has gone on hold while I search for a G757 that I can afford and is in good enough condition to risk purchasing. I am not particularly interested in obtaining a 5020 "Sports 100" as the Octopussy variant seems to attract a huge premium and I prefer the cleaner lines of the simple stainless steel versions - 4020 is the one I actually saw and was smitten by in around 1985.
I can't find anywhere that actually describes the differences between the models other than the digitalwatchlibrary.

So, I see some on eBay and really wanted to sign on to chat with you gurus about how I should go about getting a good one for a good price and not getting stung. Also knowing what I can and cannot do to service and maintain the watch.
I know I need to ensure that it is properly stated as and photographed as running, that the condition is well displayed in the photos, that the band is genuine seiko and also get the length of the band.
Could I get some other tips please?
(Should I take this post to a general discussion area now? Not sure on the etiquette)
In the mean time I'm browsing eBay for a simple, cheap and cheerful oldschool digital from mid 80s to get as an everyday wearer.
Best regards,
Will
