For Sale 2 vintage LEDs

Post11 Jun 2013, 23:23

My name is J and I am a watch addict...therefore, after looking at the finances I need to rationalise and get rid of some that I am not wearing! :-( reason for sale is that they have been replaced with more cherished examples. These will go on ebay in the next few weeks unless someone wants to ask some questions and/or arrange a private sale.

A pulsar p3 in gold, fairly good condition, working and original module. It came with a box from the bay when I bought it which is possibly original, but I can't guarantee it.
A bulova gold model - don't know much about this one but its in working order. Very bling..

Sorry for the poor photos, but it was a spur of the moment decision to post. I will take decent pics in daylight if anyone is interested.

Thx

You need to understand that when you say something is "in gold", the inference is that it is solid gold, not goldfilled or gold plated. Since the value can be affected by nearly an order of magnitude (a factor of ten), you need to be specific. And, in the case of the Pulsars, there is a big difference between the solid 14 and 18 karat models. I realize the chances of this particular watch being solid gold are miniscule, but it leaves room for doubt, and your description should be expanded to clarify.

Well, thanks for the reply Bruce.

It certainly wouldn't be my inference that an advertised gold watch was solid gold! Either 14k or otherwise... but that probably is more about my finances than my tastes.

Its plated.
I am in the UK.

J,

That is a very nice P3. Like.

I'm curious - it almost looks as if there's a little rectangle visible above the display. It almost looks like a light sensor. Any idea? You usually see the light sensor to the right of the display on these modules.

Well spotted Abe.
The digits look a bit different too (just by what can be seen through the glass).
I bet someone's jammed a Sanyo module in. See here:

Not suggesting that Plato had anything to do with the conversion :-)

perish the thought!

I will open it up and post a pic or 2 if you're really interested. Hmm I probably still have the sellers details I bought from.

Whats a Sanyo module then?

oh sorry I should have looked at the link... Seen it now. The button positions are different, how could it fit into a pulsar?

The substrate part of the Sanyo is removed from the housing and placed on the front of the Pulsar housing, you will probably need to take the module out to check for sure. An easy way to tell is how the display is made up, is it dots or lines?

Oh and the box is not original, that box is from an 80/90s Pulsar watch.

It's like a detective novel :o
you may well be right - upon opening it up the back has the usual 3013 appearance:

https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1455&bih=732&q=p3+3013+module&oq=p3+3013+module&gs_l=img.3...1705.12050.0.12369.20.4.3.13.16.0.85.313.4.4.0...0.0...1ac.1.17.img.B2MW-h7k5j4#facrc=_&imgrc=5337V789udYbwM%3A%3BgcUCqDqF17VvXM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fblog-imgs-34.fc2.com%252Fm%252Fo%252Fn%252Fmondowatch%252FPULSAR_MO.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fmondowatch.blog88.fc2.com%252Fblog-entry-104.html%3B521%3B284

But to the right of the quartz (I assume) at the 12 oclock position is a largish screw that looks post manufacture to my uneducated eye.

The LED display appearance is more line like than dot like - I have 1 other p3 pulsar with a sasm module and it doesn't look like the exaggerated dot matrix display on that one.

Checking the ebay seller (I keep printed copies of all my purchases), he is just an antiquey shop from the west country so I doubt he did it. He hasn't sold similar stuff since. And he carefully doesn't quite claim it is absolutely genuine lol.

Thanks for the feedback all, very informative. Well.... now I have to decide how to present this one on evilbay if I sell it, I can't see this forum being interested :-)

If you go the eBay route do yourself a favour and be honest, if not it will most likely get returned, I'd guess £150-200 on eBay sold for what it is.
