Seiko 0624-5009

Post28 Jan 2014, 03:34

Hi Guys,
I'm a new user on the forum.
I have a Seiko 0624-5009 LCD watch that was never sold in my fathers jewelry store.
It is in new condition except for the screen. It is a greenish yellow color but has some blackish
color invading the yellow color.
The tag on the watch says CK006M $295.00 and the box has a small price tag in a slit on the inside.
My question is the watch repairable or is even worth trying to get it fixed.
Thanks!

Hi.

Unfortunately, a little blackish color usually means that the display has started to "bleed", which is irreparable. It's a pretty simple matter to swap the display if you can find a replacement. You can either:
(1) try to find another 0624 to scavenge the display from or
(2) I believe the display from a Seiko 0662 can also be used in a 0624. The 0662 model is much less sought after and easier to find:

If your 0624 is truly in like-new condition, then it's definitely worth trying to fix since this model tends to be quite highly sought after.

Cheers,

-abe.

p.s. I have a spare non-working 0624 that could be used for a donor display. You can PM me if you're interested.

Although the displays are swappable, they are different. The 0624 has raised seconds, the 0662 has lowered seconds.

Wit a NOS 0624, Abem is correct, look for a donor 0624, with a non bleeding display.

Thanks for the replies. I was afraid that the damage was not repairable.
I may just list in on E-bay or the for sale section. Although it was in my fathers
shop and he has since passed, I have no sentimental ties to it.

I believe a 0644 display is also inter-changeable.
Seconds are in the corect spot too :-D

I'd say the display lost it's vacuum, we call that "Display bleeding". Only thing you can do is swapping for a new display.
