Realtime Model 103 Series LCD 1975

Post29 Jan 2014, 20:02

Hi,

I am new here and have bought an old LCD watch "Realtime Model 103 Series".

Seem to first be bought in October, 1975.

I does not work and I do not know why but have replaced the batteries but I suspect some component on the module might be missing?
On the outer plastic rim of the module is printed 1419.

Does this module seem complete?

I am planning in repair it later and know the watch basics but new to quartz.

Thanks,

Stefan

At first clean all contacts, i.e. all metal parts that touch the batteries, buttons and case. Gently scratching them with a small screwdriver until they look clean again should remove all invisible oxidation on the metal parts. Also check with new brand batteries, especially some cheap ones that are "who knows how old" as sold cheap might already be dead when they come out of the package.

If there are still no signs of life then give the watch a few hours with the batteries in it. Sometimes it takes some time until a watch starts running again, especially if it was left for decades in a drawer or so.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice.

The batteries have been in for a couple of days but still no life sign.

Probably it is something more serious,

Can you see the quartz resonator on the module?

I can identify a condensator, a variable resistor, and what I think is a very low
profile IC in the middle, but were is the quartz resonator?

The gold can at the top is the quartz crystal.
The module looks pretty clean. Are us sure the batteries are good ? Are the terminals at the bottom of the battery wells clean ?
