Microma (?)

Post23 Feb 2014, 17:02

Hi, anyone seen a Microma like this ebay item 261405901504 before? There is no Microma logo, an odd bracelet extension and the display does not feature the conventional Microma typeface. Two button, two line display modules are usually found on the simpler version of the chrono model but if you look closely the typeface is not as square/blocky as standard Microma. Ive seen a similar font/display type on a Spiedel before, any connection to Microma? Any views on this item?

The module looks like it comes from a Blade Runner but the case iand bracelet seem to be from an early 1975 digital or DSM model. If its a production model maybe they had some cases left over from the early models they wanted to use up

Hi Adam, the module setup (2 buttons and two line display) are similar to the BR type, but look closely at the font/typeface. On the Microma, it's squared and blocky. Meister Anker and Timex also used this module and the font style is the same retro-futuristic blocky style. I have a Spiedel with the same display layout but different font type (will try take a photo and post here when I can).

I've never seen a confirmed Microma model with no visible logo before, have you come across any before?

Thanks!

I havent seen a non branded Microma before. You are right with the lcd panel. Especially the three that has some weird horizontal segments. The two button on the Micromas is just the model without the chronograph.
The bracelet that is shown on the listing is certainly similar to the early one available on the DSM, I have that watch here.

Also noticed the bracelet has a lot more wear than the case.

Also just noticed the Litronix module. Even weirder. Never seen an early Micoma without a Microma module. Cant remember seeing a Litronix LCD before either.

It certainly has a case that looks like the Solid State tagged model you're referencing. The seller kindly responded to a request for more info/photos with the shot of the back and said he had got the watch as part of a lot. It's a strange beast in that it's display overtly recalls the Microma BR style but the back of the module clearly isn't Microma-like. The button at 2 o'clock protrudes in a way that doesn't fit into the usual commercial standard. Who knows, maybe it's some sort of OEM prototype LCD by Microma (pure speculation on my part)? Interesting piece....

The attached shows a Speidel with a similar type display but the alignment of the word "Date" is different and the font doesn't seem an exact match. Speidel never made their own watches but I haven't got confirmation who did, it's possible/(likely?) that it was Microma (at least for this model?)
