Protecting watch glass/crystal?

Post07 May 2015, 14:40

I wasn't too sure which topic area to post this...

On my older lcd watches, I always cut a piece of clear mobile phone screen protector to the size of the watch glass and apply it to the watch. Every single time I do it though, at least one edge has a bit of non contact (looks a bit like minor bubbling at the edge). It looks good as is, it just bothers me that it's not perfect lol. I use a craft blade to cut the stuff.

What is the best easily available clear material to use to protect watch glass?

Thanks in advance all. :grin1:

Edit: I forgot to mention I have tried several different brands of phone screen protectors, all give slightly imperfect results.

Do you use a hairdryer when putting it on to soften the glue? If not that might work.

Hm, that is not something I have ever thought of trying. I will give it a go on my next watch. I applied a fresh one to a new watch yesterday. I might see if it makes any difference after application. Thanks bro! 8-)

I am still trying different brands of phone screen protector, but not having much luck. I tried a new one yesterday that had the worst results so far (lower left side and right top side):

I have tried a hair drier, but it doesn't make a difference for me. The screen protectors have very little adhesive on them, so maybe that's the problem? If anyone has a specific brand or other material they use with good results, please post your recommends. Thank you! :dwf:

run a test and dont cut the film right to the edge. leave about 1mm this will show if its the gasket raising the film away from the flat glass.
