How a bad buy can turn out to be good (0634)

Post02 Jul 2015, 21:19

I was looking at an auction. few seconds to go for a quick glimpse on the cellphone and won this nice 1975 Seiko 0634-5000 from Italy.
Very cheap. :grin1: Waaay too cheap
Hmmm, lets look at the picture on the laptop.

Oohhh shht
And the seller doesn't accept paypal :rtfm:

Well after an international bank transfer (€37,50 in total) the watch arrived.
Dead black lcd fell apart in pieces.
Module (0634A!) works :-D

Well what to to then? I remembered having a dead module somewhere with an intact lcd with very degraded front polariser (no pics sorry :( ) Very dark and big orange spot. But working.
The polarizer from the dead black lcd turned out to be in a nice condition, after removal with a sharp knife and cleaning of the glue. (and it's the version with the print on it :) )
The worn polarizer from the working lcd snapped in pieces during removal, during a few minutes I thought I snapped the lcd in half

I placed the polarizer on the donor lcd without glue, the scary metal lcd clamp is keeping everything in place.
It could use just a little more tweaking but I'll leave it alone now, It looks nice enough :)

In real life the scratches are less visible :)

Looks nice , but could do with some metal cleaning. I bought some sandpaper off amazon and its fine grade , you should get some also , it works really well and is quite easy to do. Cost £5 for a set of dif grades. I'm not sure how to clean a lens yet , I did read the really fine paper can be used but I'm not certain about that. Enjoy the watch , it's really cool one. I just got a 0532 5010r and it's amazing , when I change the wrist band I'm going to post some photos up. It's such a great watch, so pleased.
