Ugly but funky: Ricoh Riquartz 812

Post09 Oct 2018, 09:02

Grabbed for only 2 euro and fixed...there's only a stuck screw over the battery clamp so it's tricky to put the 2 cells. The same module was used by Pulsar in their dress digital watches when LEDS become outdated.
Just a simple watch from 1977-78: it tells time,day and date....oh there's a light also! :grin1:

Enjoy

Some watches are made to last only as long as they are fashionable
Some watches, simply are not made to last
Seiko watches are designed to withstand the ravages of both time and fashion
Someday perhaps, all watches will be made this way

Good to keep in mind..."Pulsar" was a brand name; the manufacturer was Time Computer, Inc. And yes, it is certainly the same module used in the 3140 (stainless steel) and 5140 (14K goldfilled) LCD models. The 3140 was the only model number ever duplicated in the Pulsar product line (it also refers to the P3 Date/Command in full 18K solid gold...so there's not much chance of any real confusion here).

If I remember correctly, near the end of “American” Hamilton Ricoh had a relationship with Hamilton. Later Hamilton watches contained Ricoh calibers. Would make sense that Ricoh would have an Time Corporation Pulsar module.

I think most likely they were made in Japan FOR Time Computer, not BY TC. It was a last-gasp effort by TC to "go with the flow" of the new liquid-crystal-display watches, but it was too little, and too late...the market passed them by.
