0674-5009 resto

Post22 Mar 2016, 01:55

Got some before pics and after. Cost $55Usd

1) watch pitted, scarred and over polished. Covered in grunge DNA,
2) display stuck on date and unresponsive to pushers.
3) setting crown stuck in not set mode.
4) Crystal severely pitted.

1) new crystal installed.
2) upper case refinished with brushed sides, polished shoulders.
3) lower case refinished in brushed with circular brushed on battery hatch.
4) pushers cleaned, polished and new gaskets installed
4) movement disassembled, cleaned and reassembled, oiled on setting mechanism, cleaned pusher rocker contact.

After, did I have to label them

This is fun!

P.S. Does anyone have the strap number. I placed a similar style but the original deployment clasp does not flare at the lug.

I use wet/dry 400 grit sandpaper and a straight edge to “brush” the case. Crystal removed of course.

600 grit for a finer brushed finish.

Straps get the same treatment making sure all strokes are parallel. I finish the strap off with scotch bright.

Ok, thank you very much.

And to do a mirror polish on the edges, how are you doing ?

Fantastic case work Geoff. Change the title to 0674 so if anyone looking for this watch and what can be done finds this thread.

Ooooops, typo, shouldn’t post at midnight!

Edges sanded first to remove major dings with wet dry 400, 600, 1000 grit. Then polished with metal polish “weenol” and Dremel. Try to keep the edge from rounding with the polish wheel.

Then the brushed finish is applied with parallel strokes as described.

Love the Omega 300 and a fantastic job in the restoration too. Such a simple strong design. Added to my wishlist. [EDIT] Just seen the prices of the Omega 300, I think it will be staying on my wishlist for a very long time.

Hey,

Actualy I renovate my 0634 and I would like to know how is possible to do the circular satin on the push button as the photo ?
I saw that you did that on the case back to your Glycine and Seamaster 300.

Just get the pin out of the watch...clamp it in your dremel and hold some 600-1200 grade sandpaper to it. :-D

Yes, but I use white vinegar. Milder then the HCl. Also, while good at removing oxidation and copper sulphate residue it can remove any remaining contact under the corrosion resulting in an open circuit.

Also, do not immerse the LED or LCD module.

Another concern is neutralizing after acid application. I use baking soda and water for the neutralizein* followed by a water wash, then isopropanol followed by drying.

Sometimes a dental pick for GENTLY removing corrosion an/or fibre glass pen.

After all the above is completed I coat the circuits with DeOxit red; a deoxidizing oil which also protects and is non conductive. Especially good for creeping underneath ICs.
