WTB: Your broken 25mm Hughes modules

Post21 Aug 2007, 15:42

Well since I've been on this forum I've never had a want ad answered. I just know it will happen this time. :)

If anyone has the smaller men's Hughes modules, that don't work but also don't have the green stuff, let me know. These are the ones with the button contacts in the opposite corners. 80% of the problems with these are the "hanging" quartz crystals becoming dislodged. Some who can repair watch modules don't even go near these, so that's why I'm checking.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

The biggest problem I've come across with these is broken PCB's from people putting the wrong size of batteries in them, the PCB seems to be quite thin and fragile compared to the bigger 29mm ones.

You mentioned about the quartz, I've managed to find a very good repair for this problem simply solder normal copper wire across the contacts and hey presto a solid mounted crystal. The couple of modules I've repaired like this are running well and keeping good time so its a good reliable fix for them... :-D

Actually I rarely ever come across broken PCB's with these modules. One could say just about any module can crack with the wrong batteries in them. :)

In any case, for some people who don't have a lot of experience in soldering, they can he a real headache to fix.
