resurrected synchronar

Post06 Mar 2008, 06:32

having received varta80's yesterday i went to batteries plus to get solder tabs welded on. then to my shop for installaton. to my surprise the 80's are quite abit larger than the 50's. soooo, i have to remove most of the gel from the cell area. down to the PC as amatter of fact. i checked the SC and it was putting out a good 3v here in the az. sun. hooked everything up and viola! a working watch. it is exciting to have it working again. it has been in a drawer in pieces for about 15 yrs. thanks to jeff for suggesting batteries +. he said he could do it for me, but he is out of town and i got anxious. i am waiting for an original bracelet from howard now. thanks howard also for your help. peter

Image some more photos of the resurrection. the nicad cells are the ones i removed 15-18 yrs ago. i think most of the corrosion is the result of salt water. i noticed it shortly after a swim in the pacific. also the curved cloud across the display came at the same time. i am amazed that it still works. thx. to howard and jeff t. for their helpful suggestions. peter

Nice job Peter, glad i could help. Some people can't fathom the reasons why a stronger permanent seal was used in later years(MK III and Mk IV) when RTC took over. The salt water invasion is obviously one of them. ;-
