Image my first picture of resurrection. module was opened years ago to remove corroding nicads. it has two 389 hidrain cells in series to see if it will work. it does, so the next step was to get 2 nimh varta 80's. they were solder tabbed by batteries plus and installed. i had to remove all of the gel in the area of the cells down to the chip. the gel in the led end and other end is still there. after that i ground out the back of the case to allow more room for the cells. i glued it back together with weldon #16. previous post indicates problems i had with that. it is now running fine, keeping perfect time, staying charged. thx. to howard and j thomas for their help and advice. i will post more photos, but unfortunately i didn't take any more than this one when it was apart. peter

Great job clockace 8-) . However those melted insulator, in your case white plastic rubbber insulated batteries are not really capable to manipulate and fit inside an old or new Synch. The plastic insulator that many suppliers offer(and they will try to talk you into buying) will create too much thickness than putting your own custom insulator tape in for in insulating purposes.

As always... just trying to help solve a mystery

howard, the guy at batteries plus felt they would help seeing as how close the batts. were. looked like a good idea. however, i had no idea how tight the fit would be with the larger cells. i realized immediately that i had to remove the white plastic insulators. i also had to get them closer together than the solder strip allowed. i put a crimp in the solder strip until they were mabye .010-015 apart and used a strip of thin plastic to separate them. that was not nearly as difficult as getting enough depth to put the back on. i kept carefully grinding out the back until they barely fit with minimal clearance. i guess i got it right enough since everything is working. i will take more photos and post. peter :-) p.s. the gel you see in the photo is still there except for what is underneath the cells. i had to take all of that out to get the cells to sit as low as possible.
