Another Sun Watch work in progress.

Hi, I am looking for some help / guidence.

I am the proud owner of a Sunwatch, yes it's been a dream since boyhood and that was a long time ago..

Anyway, from scanning the forum - it's a MK III model, and yes needs some work (battery leaked, missing tracks etc..) But not detered, and up for the task....

The case (Black bottom) was beyond salvage due to all the lugs being broken and a previous owner's ham fisted usage..

Is it still possible to get hold of a complete new (NOS.? ) case assembly or at the least a decent S/H one..???

Whilst i am here also - are the adverts for spares you see on on eBay (Batch of modules in various states of repair / functionallity) worth the investment..?

Hi Snetzka,

Welcome to the forum! By now you've probably read my Solar cell replacement fiasco. You can get NOS module bottoms and probably tops from retroleds (Ed). I ordered a bottom from him a couple of days ago. Awesome guy to deal with.

As for the Ebay auctions, well that's where I got mine from, and the extra parts that come with it are hit and miss. I'm not versed enough to start taking them apart and trying to piece them together, yet.

Yes i have been reading yours and all those previous post's / story's (or is saga a better word.?) on repair / replacement...

Reading yours and those great pictures help alot indeed.. What did you say you used to re-solder the connections..?? Is the tip fine enough for the tracks / joints involved - I was thinking of making up a special tip for my portable iron just for the task..

Thanks for the advice / tip about NOS i will try to get in touch and see what can be obtained.. Mean while i will keep looking to see what is around ))

hi, for soldering i am using a "wahl isotip cordless soldering iron, model #7700". it is small, holds a good charge and recharges quickly. it is about $50. USD. i comes with 2 different sized tips that i find sufficient. i got it from a place in the states called "zantech". i think their website is www.zantechinc.com. playing with these modules is challenging. i have gotten 3 of them working besides my own mkII i bought in 1975. if you browse the posts on synchronar repairs you will find much useful info. i have a sunwatch module that i am going to try to get apart without destroying the insides in a few weeks. i already tried to open a mkIV, but destroyed it in the process. there is a learning curve here that is quite steep. that was a expensive one. regards, peter

Hey, another Mike, cool!

I'm using a dual powered soldering pen. It has a setting for 20/40w. I'm using the 20w setting, The tip on it is not fine enough for the tracks, so-so for the joints. It is a good idea to make a finer tip for this stuff. I really should do that myself.

Well as luck would have it, it was just the cell's and everything seems to function correctly although setting it to the correct time is not that easy for the novice.

I think after scaning the post's I have worked out the sequence for setting it correctly.. or at least i have convinced myself that i have ..

Boy this forum has so much good information, it's just finding it...

Does anybody out there have any plastic parts they are willing to sale to me...?? I am after a top and bottom, drop me a PM if you do and hopefully i can get this baby back together and on my arm..
