I really, really want a 0624-5009, but stumbled across this Seiko 0634-5009, and bought is with a "Buy it Now" bid a couple of days ago. I am curious if anyone here in the forum knows anything about this watch:

- rarity
- cost (I paid $100.00)
- quality

Any information on it would be appreciated. Thank you all very much.

Nice watch, excellent quality.Worlds first chrono lcd watch.Very comfortable on the wrist. Value depends on condition, from £50 to £300 for a nos piece. They appear on a regular basis,in average condition.Really mint new examples are much rarer.
Still some way behind the 0624-5009 though.

All depends on condition. This one shows general use, so values are affected. As with all vintage items , its only worth what someone wants to pay for it. There is a huge gap between prices . I have seen this watch in mint condition sell at 650 dollars.

The 0634 I pictures I posted in the opening post, are of an average condition 0634 Seiko. Maybe "7" out of "10" on the newness scale and all functions working.

But like "Holly" stated, I guess condition is not always the top characteristic.

I bought it because it is the model with the 1st Chronograph, but I would also possibly buy a 0624 "Used" in the same or worse condition if the price is right. I am only stating this because I think it is relative to the topic we are on.

Thank you all.

Recently;
A 7 out of 10 working original one sold for $2650.
One with a black LCD and aftermarket bracelet sold for $450.
A 0614 (the ´globe´ case) with partiall blackened lcd sold for $1650.
None with any docs. or box.

The 0634 was mass produced and had a long production run so it is abundant.
Obviously used nice ones still sell for under 100$
It is a véry well made, véry accurate watch that can be worn daily.

Thát is not quite in the same colectability league though.

Recently;
A 6 out of 10 working original one sold for $2650.
One with a black LCD and aftermarket bracelet sold for $450.
A 0514 (the ´globe´ case) with partially blackened lcd sold for $1400.
None with any docs. or box.

Huertecilla,

Thank you for the input. I see that there are some rare watches that sell at a really high price without manuals and boxes.

I will keep looking for a good or moderately used Seiko 0624. Maybe I will get lucky, and grab one for $175.00 or $200.00.

Umm.... Someone is confusing the 0614 (aka 06LC) with the 0624. A good 0624 shouldn't run you more than $200. A complete, working 0614? Well, show me one!- practically all have one or more defects (bad LCD, wrong bracelet, bad board etc etc). A good one will cost you $2500, never seen a perfect one offered for sale!

OldTom,

Look at this link...

http://cgi.ebay.com/SEIKO-0624-5009-WOR ... 41594dc2bd

Are there some differences in the 0624 that make one better than another?

Thank you,

"1st EVER DIGITAL WATCH" ?
Later he writes "1st WESTERN RELEASE DIGITAL WATCH" - if you read this as "1st Japanes digital watch officially sold in the West" he's even right AFAIK.

So am I to believe the 0624 in this auction is WAY overpriced? Or perhaps the seller is fabricating a lie?

I find the 0624 more attractive than the " home" market first models. The export 0624 is of a nicer design , but still retains the same display.
Try finding a new one . Although they are sometimes available as nice used examples. The segment style with that curved ends and the large digits look great against the yellow display.

It looks like its in good, working condition. $100 doesn't seem like an unreasonable price for a watch at this age. Congrats
