My new Tokima Digirobo's

Post07 May 2011, 00:03

Hi,

I have just picked up some Digirobo's.

Two unused to keep good and eventually give to the kids:

and a used one on a rubber strap that I can use at parties etc and the kids can show to their friends etc

Just a bit of fun!

Hi all,

Well they arrived the other day. Turns out the last one was actually an original 1983 model. It's much smaller.

The other two are 90's... metal much larger and have the 800 messages.

The instruction booklet is in Japanese only. I have managed to figure out everything (including naming it and giving it a date of birth) EXCEPT how to change the lanuage for the messages to English.

Does anybody have this last piece of information?

These are cool :)

Had to change the battery in both 90's one. First time I changed the batteries in a watch. It was fiddly but fine. Yay!

8-) Funky fellows those Tokima's a great bit of fun, I bet the kids will love them 8-)

Ed has a variety of the new ones for sale on retroleds ( http://www.retroleds.com/LCD3.htm ) and they are sold with a "custom English language translation booklet, which reveals secret functions of your Steamhead watch."

Might be worth dropping Ed a line.

Thanks. I had seen that page but thought the wording made it pretty obvious that he was in the business of selling those instructions.

I thought somebody might help me out with the last bit seeing as I have most of it figured out! :-P

"These watches come with a custom made ENGLISH translation booklet with custom artwork that explains some the hidden features of your Bandai watch! Without this translation you would never know it can be programmed to display your name, remember your birthday or display a number of different silly messages. The custom translation booklet does all of this in text and diagrams. These booklets are only available with these watches and are only available though this site.
* The translator retained a few copies for their personal collection."

Kabong is correct - I am not putting up the booklet until the watches are either gone OR someone who purchased one of the Steamheads from me does it. It is not an original manufacturer's document or a copy of one. I have sold 4 of those sets and nobody has done it yet...I guess they are attracted to the exclusivity of the manual. I imagine they don't want to manhandle it to scan it nicely. I bought the investment of the guy who had the translation made(and double checked by a second person even!), and I bought his small cache of the little guys(20-ish). I can only suggest Kabong buys one - they are truly NOS, complete with all packaging + the translation. They've sold for a lot less AND a lot more - I have set a [relatively] moderate price, just like the prior owner did for me.

I will look at the directions and try to give you the information(text). Maybe someday you will desire a physical copy of the directions for your hands to hold.

OK, the results.
You cannot change the messages to read exclusively in English. You can show the name in English. "While showing TIME, push button A(upper left, viewed from front) for 5 seconds, then the name will show in English."

Also from manual.
"Variations of Messages
Example: animal sounds made after a message. You can't choose what the robot will say/do."

"Crystal vibration speed is 32,76Hz.
If you use this Tokima within a 10 Celsius to 30 Celsius, then there will be a +/- of 3 seconds a day accuracy."

Hi retroleds,

Thanks for taking the time to post that info. I appreciate it.

I won't be investing in another one as I believe one of mine has never been opened before (and I was very careful to not mark the box or the watch when I put a new battery in), one is at about 95% and the other is an 80's one and is pretty good and the replacement strap is even very nice. I also have a scan of the english booklet for the 80's one.

I actually have somebody lined up to translate it for me, but I was wondering if I could get it on here more immediately and not have to ask a favour of them (friend of a friend).

On the one hand I wouldn't really feel like posting the result up as you are trying to make money on it, but on the other hand who are you to say you own the rights to the info.

Having said that, your own posting above says you can't change the language so it's a moot point!

You are correct, I don't own the information; however, I do own the information in it's current, copy-written format.

The English version of the Digirobo manual is a factory item. That is different than the Steamhead, in features and form.

The ip record is getting interesting already.....

Hi,

I'm not sure what you mean by "ip record"? Intellectual Property?

On that hand is also written that this is a feature of running a business. Even when a hoby-like side business.

Japanese teksts are a pisser. They are a pain to translate electronically even when you have them in electronic form. Scanning and translating by machine is M:)W:)M but does not gét you a usefull translation; I know
Please don´t unload that ´pain´ on someone who paid money for a translated manual as a selling point for his digirobots.

Enjoy your marvellous set!! I would lóve one too. I could blame Ed for selling them at a ´high´ price but that would be blaming him for the desirablity of these things on the market, for being asteamhead ;-) of the game

Come on, share the fun Kabong. I have it from reliable expert source (a cool steam punk girl) that they attract cool steam-punk girls. You have a sét :!: , I have none :-( ; I envy you.

It's not the info I am interested in containing, it is more the physical item. It has an exploded view for battery removal, a complete English/Japanese character chart, a few unique pictures. Really just a double sided sheet, nicely folded, but cool. ?Do you want the music, or do you want the music and the dustjacket or booklet that comes with the music? I'll consider adjusting the price on the Steamer. ;-)

As far as them attracting steam-punk girls......stick to the ones your age. Unless you don't mind being "punk" boy in jail. :x
