Radioactive National Semiconductor watch help

Post24 Aug 2011, 16:49

The old postings I read said that the tritium backlight is probably dead many years now, but this was my graduation watch in 1959.
I have some garbled memories, it may have been college 1977.
Is there a source of new guts I can put into it (with or without the airport geiger counter wakeup alarm) ?
I don't know what measurements might be needed for new guts.
Is there a collector or museum that might want it as an example of planned obsolescence?
National semiconductor was bought out recently.
I am new to forums, so I hope that I am not violating any protocols.
Thank you
I think I uploaded the picture as requested.

This is the best my fixed-lens camera will do close up.

Welcome pehamel,
I read your posting and had a question:
The old postings I read said that the tritium backlight is probably dead many years now, but this was my graduation watch in 1959.

You received a LCD watch as a graduation present in 1959  :?:
Is there anyway you can post a picture? AFAIK, LCD watches did not
make an appearance in the retail market unitl the early 1970's, and closer to the mid 1970's in the United States... ;-)

(BTW - you don't happen to own a De Lorean do you?? )

College, 1977 - enough said! M:)W:)M

Welcome to DWF.NU, Pehamel! Since you are new to forums, be forwarned they can be brutal, due to the anonymity of the Internet, combined with the fervent nature of collecting and discussing almost anything - some thickness of skin is helpful. I assure you LedLuvr and I are just having fun with you, not trying to be mean with the new guy.
The classic starting point http://www.dwf.nu/viewforum.php?f=4

A picture of your watch, please.

Yes, Icorrect you are Ed. I was just trying to be funny with our new memeber pehamel.
I explained the whole "time travelling De Lorean to get vintage watches" thing to him via p.m. Welcome Mr. Pehamel. :-)

Under the circumstances I have to wonder, "is that your final answer?" I guess if an anonymous person can't take a very mild ribbing from some other anonymous individuals, over an obviously (in hindsight) bit of amusing text, they have made the correct decision in exiting the stage  . I'll remove his account so he won't get notified of this response, but there is no point in removing the post. He did violate one unspoken protocol: don't melt[down] at normal room temperatures. We collectively take turns sticking each other's faces in the dirt, with our thoroughly crushing "proofs" that the other guy is dead wrong. You either laugh it off, shrug it off, find data to refute the other guy's data, or you walk away. :-)

Of course, you can also just say, "ok, thanks for making that clearer" or say nothing. Suck it up! :-P

And now, some music from our sponsor.......
Cee Lo Green, Cry Baby
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I34cljQQ7YA

If this makes you cry, girl I didn't mean it
Next time I should lie, the truth is inconvenient
I bet if you'd try, you could live without me
I really don't know why, you bother to cry about me

Cry, cry, cry baby, I guess that I'm a bad guy now
Cry, cry, cry baby, just like all the other ones
Cry, cry, cry baby.....
