Seiko A128 fault

Well I thought I would stray from my usual LED purchases and dabble in a few LCDs. Picked up this Seiko for a few pounds which was a non runner. Cleaning contacts and putting in new batteries (which have been in for a week now) have produced this:



It's running fine but the digits are washed out. Would this be the polariser and is it an easy fix?

good question...i personnaly don't think that you can fix it. Its not the polarisers but i've read that some had better contrast after renewing them.
I think the problem is no liquid cristals enough left between the panels. Don't ask me why!! maybe a leakage, maybe from the sun.

i hope others have better idea's

I think this is the polarizers. Hopefully the front one only but quite possibly the back as well. I have had excellent results replacing them(usually just the front). You could even try just placing one over the top of the existing polarizer to see if it made a difference.

Thanks Kasper and Adam for your help. Now I'm a newbie with LCDs but keen to have a go. Would this be suitable as a ploarising film or would I need something more specific?

Nice trick with the polarised film switch to make a negative display, would this mask out an area of bleed if the bleed is not effecting the digits?

I havent tried but would it make the bleed reversed out too?

Congratulations !!
Very nice done.

I have few LCD that I would like to treat this way in order to get a better contrast.
Can you please tell me if you have used the polarizer that Kasper had suggested,
and how difficult is the process ?

Hi, Yes I have now purchased the polarisers recommended by Kasper. I didn't take the old polariser off - all I did was to place a cut out piece over the existing one and it has worked fine. It is really easy - just remove the module and cut out a strip the same size as the existing polariser and remove the backing film and place on the module. I've done 2 now and the 2nd one took less than 10 minutes.

The first one I used a normal polariser which is in the photo and the 2nd was an anti- glare but I struggle to see the difference on the modules.
