How old is this Accurist?

Post25 Aug 2012, 16:12

Hello,

I've just got this Accurist in working order again, but have hardly any details about it at all; there is reference to 'night glow' quartz on the printed glass (though there appears to be no light) and I'm not too sure of it's age. It has a Hitachi module in it.

What do you reckon? I've googled Accurist LCD watches but was surprised at how little info there seems to be about them; then again, maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place!

Cheers

Andy

I would say around 1977-1978. I think Accurist is an English company. The light would have (I think) come from tritium behind the lcd panel in front of the reflector panel. I have had them apart. I might even have one I can take a shot of for you so you can see. The tritium has a life span of 10 years or so. There has been a thread on here on the forum about tritium where someone did a great job of replacing it (not cheap though).

Interesting; thanks! I hadn't thought of tritium being the source of backlighting in watches that old. I do have a Traser with the little tritium vials in set into the hands, but I think I'll keep them in that for the meantime!

Thanks again,

Andy

Well,very pretty this Accurist!Love design....a late 70's for sure
Some watches are made to last only as long as they are fashionable
Some watches, simply are not made to last
Seiko watches are designed to withstand the ravages of both time and fashion
Someday perhaps, all watches will be made this way
