Restoration of a Seiko 0439-4009

Post30 Jan 2013, 02:03

This Seiko 1977 0439-4009 came to me in a lot of seiko's, casio's and other digitals.
The watch was in very bad shape; many signs of usage, on crystal, bracelet and buckle. Beside that, the movement was switching on and of due to some corrosion/bad contacts.

The fact that this Seiko is one of the rare models with a plexi crystal made me decide to restore it (and off course the fact that i love this model!)

I started with servicing the movement (high quality, beautifull), it worked fine after that. Then the case, sandpapering, polishing etc. Eventually the scratched bracelet, i replaced the buckle with another one as the original was too heavy damaged.

I forgot to take 'before' pictures :roll: But i had a picture of the seller, i selected this watch in the picture to give you an idea;

Then the result

You have given me hope for an 0439-5007 that is going to need work.

It is great to see how much life you can bring back to these watches.

Well done friend....good job for sure! :-D
Some watches are made to last only as long as they are fashionable
Some watches, simply are not made to last
Seiko watches are designed to withstand the ravages of both time and fashion
Someday perhaps, all watches will be made this way

seicitizitch,

I have one mthing to say about this job...Cleeeeeeeeean!!!! Wow! I wonder, does the crystal separate from the Bezel? Can you take the crystal out from this model? I would love to know what the process is, but I will understand if you keep it a secret.

Thank you for showing.

Thanks for your positive reactions all :-)

@Patrick: actually this Seiko has one of the easiest crystals to remove. You need to remove the movement and the inner bezel round the lcd panel. After that you can push the crystal out of the case by simply pushing the crystal. Its a rounded plexi crystal with a gasket round the edge.
Goodluck!
