Difference Seiko 0114 and 0124 ?

Post22 Jun 2013, 01:42

Hey guys,
Im repairing a 0114 movement with spare parts of a 0124 movement I have without a lcd panel.
The movement fits a 0114-0020 which is somehow similar to the 0124-0019 (same case, slightly different inner bezel)
Can someone point out the technical differences between these two?
Left the 0124, right the 0114:

Following the conducting paths, it looks like they're just different layouts of the same design. The 114 has an older style variable capacitor and the IC is in a different case, but that's about all I can tell from this side of the movement. The only significant difference in your picture is the round plastic cover at the bottom of the 114 module, but I have no idea what's underneath or inside.

The white object is a small transformer to give the 6-8 volts needed to drive the LCD panel- only a very few of the earliest Seiko modules had these. In the 0124 (and subsequent) it is replaced by a transistor/capacitor charge pump as the panel drive requirements had gone down to about 4-5 volts drive voltage and a tripler could supply the necessary voltage.

@ old tom:
Yeah, I think that sounds fair.. the very early lcd panels used 7-8 volts. In that sence I assume the lcd panel of the 0114 wont fit to the 0124 (I have to test the 0114 after repair, haven't finished it yet) in case the 0114 turns out defective.
Well, we will see, I will post a result up here. Thanks all

Did you have any luck with this? Any findings greatly appreciated. One has just arrived on my doorstep, it looks clean and I have seen very light digits when placing a battery in.
