Silver Gruen Teletime

Post26 Feb 2014, 00:36

I seem to remember reading a post some time ago about various gold and silver Teletime models. I think it was on dwf. For sure there are loads of Gold Teletimes around. And quite a few silver LCQs. Anyway, I don't like Gold watches. I own none and immediately sell any that I accidently buy. I also happen to have an irrational attraction to watches with blue dials. So silver and blue is pretty much my ideal -

It works fine just couldn't be arsed to put a battery in. Or to take super-duper quality pictures.

I have a not-so-common steel LCQ with backlight in my pile of bits. Its all there except the Gruen bracelet. Its like the un-backlit steel/brown dial one in this collection http://www.crazywatches.pl/gruen-lcq-field-effect-lcd-1973 - If anyone has a spare strap they want to sell - let me know - I know, I will neither hold my breath nor stop browsing the 'Bay 8-)

Quietman,

Nice Teletime! I'm a sucker for stainless blue faced watches also. I've only seen one silvery Teletime on the 'bay that I can remember and I could have kicked myself for letting it go.

Do you know if it's stainless for sure or might it be chrome/nickel plated over brass / base metal? I thought I saw one with some wear through to a coppery colored base metal.

Cheers,

Chrome on Brass.

Most likely you remember the same one you're looking at now - bought last year sometime - been replated now + new Crystal

+ new blue lizard strap to match the old magazine advertisement - was it on your website?

I always think these are the purest of watches...just plain time and date. Love them.
btw these also deserve some great pictures :-D

Kasper,

These are the LCD equivalent of the P2 - time only. I like the simplicity, the big readable digits, and the stem setting mechanism too, although it's a bit fragile and can be a big finicky in operation.

Quietman: Yes, I was thinking of the one from last year. It's good to see the restoration that you've done with it (and that it is being properly appreciated). Nice job! It looks almost like the one from the advertisement:
